Photography from the Mediterranean
Dozens of photographers in hundreds of photographs

Bizjak portrays the marble quarries in Carrara, Italy, in a series photographed with large-format analog
equipment and long exposures. His monochromatic palette extends the photographic sphere of the quarry, creating meditative photographs of sublime beauty that appear almost artificial. As he states, "I try to show familiar places from new angles. It is no coincidence that most of my work is related to the Mediterranean, since it bears a close relationship to my history. I see history as a catalyst for my research, while attempting to go farther in order to create images of universal beauty."
