Privacy Policy

We, MUZA, Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv (PBC) 520035908 (the “Museum” or “we”), respect your privacy and rights in connection with your personal data, and we hereby set out the Museum’s privacy policy in connection with the personal data collected during your visit of, use of, and purchases made on the website and the services offered thereon, which we operate at: www.eretzmuseum.org.il (hereinafter respectively the “Site” and “Services”).

Unless stated otherwise, you are not legally required to provide us with your personal data, and the provision thereof is contingent on your will and consent. Should you not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, we ask you not to provide personal data or to cease use of the Site, however in such an event you may be unable to access all features offered on the Site.

Unless defined otherwise, the terms in this privacy policy shall have the same meaning ascribed to them on the Site’s bylaws. Nothing in this policy derogates from the provisions in the bylaws or from any other document in effect between the Museum and you.

1. Types of personal data we collect and the purposes of collecting the data

1.1. Personal data you provide to us

For certain services on the Site, you may be asked to provide personal data as set forth below. Such data includes, inter alia, name, ID number, contact details, birthdate, residential address, email address, payment method details, information about the services you purchased or that you are interested in purchasing from the Museum (such as admission tickets and participation in events), and in certain cases visitor eligibility for special benefits and any other personal data you provide to us in connection with the Services and/or use and/or whenever you contact the Museum. In general, you are not legally required to provide the data, and its provision is contingent on your will and consent, however without providing the details marked as mandatory fields we will be unable to provide you with the requested services. Nonetheless, you warrant that the details you entered when providing the details to the Site and/or in connection with the Services are your details and that they are correct, up-to-date, accurate and complete. Please take care to provide correct and complete information. Should there be changes to the personal data you have provided, you are requested to update us. Providing partial or incorrect details as well as changes to the details without updating the Museum may prevent you from receiving updates in respect of the Services and/or your purchases and/or the ability to contact you when necessary.

Insofar as you provide personal data for a third party, your hereby warrant that you are authorized and lawfully permitted to provide the personal data about another person and that the data was provided after obtaining their consent to provide the data to the Museum in accordance with this privacy policy, and this does not prejudice a third-party right and/or their privacy.

1.2. Personal data that we collect automatically

In the framework of you contacting the Museum or as part of using the Services, related data may be collected that includes the date contact was initiated, the manner it was achieved, i.e. on what communication channel, as well as information about the requested service or your activity at the Museum, such as: visitation times and participation in events.

In addition, the Site uses automatic tools to profile your use of the Site, so as to improve the browsing experience, identify repeat users, and for purposes of information security (“Cookies”). These tools collect data about you and about your use of the Site. This data also includes, inter alia, the details of your internet provider, your IP address, the location of the device used to access the Site, when and in what manner the Site was used, the browser type and additional information attesting to how the Site is used.
In addition, such data also helps adjusting the Site to your personal preferences, personalizing the appropriate services for you, and displaying targeted advertising. Some of the Cookies are operated by us (first party cookies) and some are operated by external partners who provide us with data analysis, advertisement and marketing services (third party cookies), which may use the data collected even for the business needs of those third parties.

Some of the Cookies expire when you close the browser and others are stored on the hard drive of the end device you use. With respect to others, you are able to delete and/or prevent the creation of Cookies on the device you use by way of changing the relevant settings on the browser you are using by clicking on the button “Reject” on the banner appearing when you enter the Site and/or by clicking the “Manage Cookies” link that appears in the lower part of the Site, through which you can change the settings for collecting data through Cookies.

1.3. Purchases on the Site

In order to complete a purchase on the Site and allow the Museum to send you the ordered items, you will be asked to provide personal data such as first name, family name, ID number, email address and telephone number, or any additional data to be asked for when executing the purchase and which is marked as a mandatory field.

Furthermore, after completing the above details you will be asked to complete the details of the payment method with which you will make the purchase; the payment is executed through a secure clearing page. The Museum does not habitually store the payment details (except for the last four digits of the credit card) on its databases, and clearing services are provided by third parties; such data is stored with them in a secure manner and in accordance with their privacy policies.

Information about the services you purchased will be stored on the Museum’s systems. In addition, your correspondence with the Museum may be documented on the Museum’s systems.

1.4. Subscribing to the mailing list

Should you wish to subscribe to the Museum’s mailing list and receive routine updates, including updates regarding various benefits and special offers from the Museum, you will be asked to provide personal data that includes an active email address and/or mobile number.

Insofar as you have subscribed to a newsletter and/or messages from the Museum, we will send you a periodic newsletter and/or messages and/or advertisements, which include updates on new events and services of the Museum. Entering your email address and/or telephone number in the framework of subscribing to receive updates constitutes consent to receive advertisements in accordance with the provisions of section 30A of the Communications (Telecommunication and Broadcasting) Law, 5742-1982.

The Museum is aided by an external provider for the purpose of managing and sending the messages. Information in connection with the subscription/removal from the distribution list and messages sent on behalf of the Museum is stored on the Museum’s systems that said external provider operates.

You are at all times able to choose to cease receiving these messages, through clicking on the link “Unsubscribe” in the email correspondence you receive from the Museum, or in any other way as noted in the message itself.

2. Purposes of collecting and using the data

The Museum will use the data you provided or the data it and/or third parties collected in accordance with the below purposes or for any other purpose set out in the bylaws and/or on the Site itself:

  • To allow you to use the Site and its content;
  • To provide you with the services offered on the Site, including purchases of admission tickets and registration to workshops;
  • To contact you when we believe there to be a need to do so for the purpose of providing the Services or in order to comply with any other statutory provision;
  • To respond to your messages, provide support and handle requests or complaints;
  • To send you marketing offers, including event invites, advertising offers, and proposals for products or services, subject to the provisions of applicable law.
  • For the purpose of changing and enhancing the content and services on the Site and tailoring them to the preferences of the Site’s users, as reflected by an analysis of the statistical data collected by the Museum, including with respect to the user’s usage patterns. Furthermore, the Museum will use the statistical data for business analyses of the Museum and for marketing purposes, all in accordance with this privacy policy;
  • To support the Museum’s ongoing business activity, including to document activity in connection with the Services;
  • To the extent required under law or pursuant to a court order;
  • For the purpose of settling disputes, preparation and defense against legal claims and for other legal purposes.

3. Transfer of data to third parties

The Museum will not transfer personal data about you to third parties other than in the cases set out below, and you will have no argument or claim against the Museum in respect to providing your data as foregoing:

  • Should the Museum request your permission, and you provide your explicit consent to such end;
  • Should the personal data be sent to proxies of the Museum and/or to anyone acting on its behalf, including service providers of the Museum, for the purpose of providing specific services, such as clearing services and/or Site operation and/or management of the Museum’s marketing activity;
  • Should you violate the Site’s bylaws or should actions be taken through the Site, or in any connection with the Site, which are in violation or appear to be in violation of the law, or any attempt to perform such actions;
  • In order to comply with any law, including in response to a legal proceeding, disclosure order or request of any court or competent tribunal or other authority, which orders the Museum to provide your details or personal data to the court or tribunal or other competent authority or to any third party;
  • To corporations affiliated with the Museum and its controlling shareholders, including parent companies, subsidiaries and companies under your control;
  • In order to identify, prevent or handle security or technical issues and in situations where the Site is used by someone appearing to not be authorized to use the Services;
  • In the event of a dispute, argument, claim, demand or legal proceedings between you and the Museum and/or anyone on its behalf;
  • Whenever the Museum believes that providing the collected data is necessary in order to prevent serious damage to your or a third party’s property or body;
  • Should the Museum merge into the operations of another entity or if the Museum transfers into the ownership of another corporation, it will be possible to transfer the data to the new corporation, provided said corporation employs a privacy policy no less stringent that this privacy policy.

In addition, the Museum may transfer statistical data that does not personally identify you, for or without compensation, to third parties with which it has business or other relationships, including companies engaged in analyzing anonymous statistical data as stated for the purpose of enhancing the Services offered on the Site, user experience on the Site or for other purposes, at the Museum’s sole discretion.

4. Links to third-party websites

Clicking on links to third-party websites presented as part of the Services is your sole responsibility. These links are provided for convenience only and the Museum is not responsible for the availability of these links and/or websites or for their data collection policies. The privacy policies of third parties bear no relation to the Museum, and it is your responsibility to review them before using the services and/or websites of these third parties.

5. Duration data must be stored

We store personal data that we require for the purpose of providing the Services, in order to support our ongoing business activity in accordance with the Museum’s procedures and as required under the law. Furthermore, we may continue storing your personal data if needed, for example for the purpose of a potential preparation for legal proceedings or for documentation and archival purposes and for other legal needs. Your personal data will be stored on the Museum’s database that may also be administered and managed on its behalf by third parties.

It is clarified that in respect of payment method details, the Museum only stores the purchase details and the last four digits of the payment method; the full details however may be stored in a secure manner with the service provider, including for the purpose of renewed purchases and for charging for ongoing services. As stated, in any event the payment method details are stored in accordance with the provisions of applicable law.

6. Information security

The Museum strives to secure the Site, the Services and the users’ personal data. The Museum implements industry-standard procedures and systems to secure the data and prevent unauthorized use of the data. Although these mitigate the risks of unauthorized access to the Museum’s systems and computers, the Museum cannot guarantee that they will provide total protection against breaches and/or unauthorized access as foregoing.

You bear full and exclusive responsibility for all actions taken under your personal username and password. Therefore, we recommend not to share your personal password or any information in connection with your login details and/or authentication to the Museum’s systems or to any other system as is the case from time to time, with any other third party. Should you choose to share this information with a third party, you will bear full liability for all actions taken under your personal username and password. In addition, you undertake to inform the Museum immediately of any unauthorized use of your password and/or of any other breach of confidentiality or privacy.

7. Right to review the data

In accordance with the provisions of the law, you have the right to ask to review the data collected about you that is located on the Museum’s database. Moreover, you have the right to ask the Museum to rectify information that is incorrect, incomplete or inaccurate, or ask to have it erased, all subject to reservations set forth in the law. For example, we cannot erase information about commercial actions or actions you have taken on the Site that the Museum is required to store, in the necessary scope and for the required duration, in accordance with the Museum’s procedures and obligations the Museum is subject to under the law. Nevertheless, at your request we will remove you from the distribution list; see also section 1.4 above.

8. Changes to the privacy policy

The Museum may from time to time amend the provisions of the privacy policy without providing early notice or requiring approval. The new privacy policy will take effect immediately upon being updated on the Site. The above notwithstanding, should substantial changes be made, this will be published via a Site notice.
