Measures taken to make this website more accessible

Equalweb`s Automatic system, team of developers, designers and content accessibility experts has reviewed, remediated and tested this website by performing multi-layered accessibility testing and analysis of the new and updated accessibility measures and web content. As part of the process to make this website more accessible, adjustments were made which include JavaScript & CSS work. The process also included accessibility modifications for assistive technologies (e.g. NVDA, JAWS etc.). Below is a complete list of accessibility modifications and functionalities made.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

Our mission goal is to be able to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible.We have therefore invested efforts to support popular systems with high market share, including Chrome, Firefox, edge, Opera and Safari VoiceOver on a MAC. Physical location accessibility services

MUZA – Eretz Israel Museum considers it very important to provide quality, professional, equitable, and accessible service to all our customers, including people with disabilities.

Our physical accessibility services include the following:

Parking:
Parking in the museum parking lot is free for holders of a disability certificate. The entrance to the accessible parking lot is through the main entrance of the museum parking lot. Upon arriving at the entrance barrier, press the button to receive an entry ticket and take the ticket before exiting the vehicle. Then press the intercom button and ask the attendant to open the inner lot on the right side, where the accessible parking spaces are marked. There is an instructional sign at the entrance gate explaining the procedure. The text on the sign is in large letters and is placed in a prominent location. Upon completing the visit to the museum, visitors with a disability permit must go to the security desk near the ticket booths to validate the parking ticket.

Admission Fees:
Free entry for holders of a disability certificate (upon presentation of the certificate) and for companions of individuals with disabilities (upon presentation of a disability certificate stating that a companion is required).

Ticket Counter:
We provide an accessible counter for wheelchair users as well as a hearing assistance device.

Queue Exemption:
Priority service without waiting in line for holders of a disability certificate.

Information Desk:
Here visitors can receive a museum map, information on the exhibitions and displays, and accessibility arrangements.

Accessibility Accomodations

Electric Cart:
An electric cart is available for visitors with mobility difficulties, providing easy access between the museum’s pathways, exhibitions, and displays.
To request the cart, please contact the museum’s ticket counter.

The service is available during museum operating hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Thursday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Wheelchair Accessibility:
A personal wheelchair is available for visitors with mobility challenges, ensuring a comfortable visit through the museum’s exhibitions. To arrange for a wheelchair, please contact the ticket counter or the information desk. Visitors must leave an official ID at the security desk as a deposit until the wheelchair is returned at the end of the visit.

Restrooms:
Accessible restrooms are available throughout the museum. They are marked with directional signage and indicated on the museum map, which can be obtained at the ticket counter.

Elevators:
Elevators are installed in the museum halls, the Rothschild Center, and the Alexander Pavilion for Postal and Philatelic History. Each elevator includes an audio guidance system.

Outdoor Lifts:
Two platform lifts are installed in outdoor areas where stairs are present: near the fire truck plaza and the ascent to Yael Garden. To request assistance operating the lifts, please call: 052-2741703.

Sidewalks and Outdoor Pathways:
The museum grounds are equipped with tactile warning surfaces made of stainless steel studs. Handrails have been installed alongside stairways and sidewalks for additional support.

Orientation Stations with Enlarged Museum Maps:
Located at the exit from the entrance lobby and at various points throughout the museum for visitor convenience.

Halls / Planetarium

Access routes to the museum halls, exhibitions, and open spaces are fully accessible for visitors with special needs and wheelchair users.

Halls

Wheelchair Users:
Upon entering the halls, attendants are available to assist with directions and the use of elevators or platform lifts.

Hearing Impaired Visitors:
For events, performances, and conferences held in the Kalczkin, Nofim, and Rothschild halls, assistance is available at the entrance lobby, where visitors can request headphones for the audio system and guidance on using the mobile accessibility app.

The Kalczkin, Rothschild, Nofim, Kadman, and Alexander Center halls are equipped with the Bettear audio accessibility platform, enabling real-time listening via the Bettear mobile app.

Planetarium

The planetarium is accessible to visitors with visual impairments and wheelchair users.

Planetarium shows are equipped with the Bettear audio accessibility platform for the hearing impaired.

Temporarily, transcription services are unavailable due to a technical issue.

Visitors with Visual and Hearing Impairments

Enhanced Audio System:

  • Hearing devices for explanations are available at the ticket counter in the entrance lobby and in the museum shop.
  • The Kalczkin, Rothschild, Nofim, Kadman, and Alexander Center halls are equipped with the Bettear audio accessibility platform, which allows real-time listening via a dedicated app. While primarily designed for hearing-impaired visitors, the system is available to all attendees at events, lectures, and conferences.

How to Use It?

  • Download the Bettear app from your app store.
  • Bring your headphones when attending events in our halls.
  • Open the Bettear app inside the hall, connect, and enjoy high-quality audio accessibility!

  • Headphones can also be borrowed 30 minutes before the event at the entrance to the halls.
  • For assistance with headphones or the app, please contact the attendant at the hall entrance.

Sign Language Interpretation:
For any museum event where the event type allows, visitors may request a sign language interpreter by providing at least 14 days’ notice. Due to technological limitations and the nature of the projection, subtitles cannot be displayed in the planetarium. However, a sign language interpreter can be arranged in advance upon request.

Live Transcription for Events:
Live transcription is provided for select performances in the museum halls. This service is the responsibility of the event organizer and is arranged in advance.
Some events may not include transcription, depending on the nature of the event or legal requirements. Visitors can inquire in advance for more details.

Audio Guidance for the Visually Impaired:
The Step-Hear system is installed around Yael Garden, the winepress exhibits, and adjacent displays, enabling independent navigation using a dedicated mobile app. Visitors must install the app on their personal mobile device.

Booking an Accessible Tour:
Personal or group-accessible tours can be arranged up to one week before the planned visit.
