Why
“A large-scale painting composed of dots of color, which is reminiscent of a Pointillist painting or pixelated image. These dots were created using transparent rubber vacuum pads filled with acrylic paint. In a laborious process that lasted an entire year, I created the image while attending to illusions of depth, including concealment, diminishment, and lightening. The painting gleams momentarily as a perspectival composition, yet is immediately flattened due to the recurrent pattern appearing on the support.
This work is part of a large-scale installation presented in 2017 at Basis Gallery, in a solo exhibition titled “Green on the Outside Red on the Inside” (curator: Shlomit Breuer). The exhibition was concerned with the body and images of nature, while casting a reflexive, humorist gaze at the history of art and contemporary painting.
I painted this Pointillist painting using cheap materials – vacuum pads – bought on the website AliExpress. Unlike the Impressionists, who painted outdoors, I find my pictures on Google Images – a mediated image of a forest.”
