Why
Lisbeth Biger’s work introduces viewers to the special properties of glass, emphasizing its immaterial character. The deliberate fragmentation of an industrial “window glass” pane, and the reflections created by the fracture patterns, reshape the material – adding a new dimension, depth, and movement to the flat sheet of glass.
Biger uses the transparent surface to shift our perception of its materiality through the construction of a physical, three-dimensional space that is at once also subtly fluctuating and immaterial.
“We have so much discarded glass lying around. Finding new ways to use it provides great pleasure and a worthy challenge.”
