Why
A model of a fighter plane crashes against a wall. This event is captured in the work by Eitan Bartal, which includes a video and a ceramic floor installation. The plane crash created by Bartal is based on the shooting down of an actual plane that happened during the First Lebanon War, stunning the entire world. For many years, the spy plane MiG 25 was considered invincible due to the incredible altitude at which it flies. This view was shattered when an Israeli reserves soldier managed to improve the existing system of Hawk missiles, leading to the first-ever interception of a MiG 25. Bartal’s work reconstructs the defeat of this invincible fighter plane by means of a terracotta model, which is reminiscent of the complex ceramic materials used for different parts of the plane’s engines. At the same time, it underscores the fragility of the plane when faced with the power of human creativity.
