A special way to enjoy the rich diversity and amazing beauty of the world of shells as they are reflected in stamps
Through stamps the exhibit presents shells and diverse objects and the numerous and surprising ways in which people use these creatures that belong to the mollusk system.
There are only few creatures in the animal world that serve humans in such a comprehensive and diverse way, as did these creatures. From the dawn of history people collected snails and shells which they found on the seashore and along river banks, eating their soft flesh, and collecting the empty shells as precious raw material. People documented their feelings toward the mollusks, the object of their admiration, in literary descriptions, poetry, artistic works in painting and sculpture, and since the invention of stamps – in postal stamps as well.
